Back on line

So the internet seems to be working now; which is always good. I was going through withdrawals last night and of course there was nothing on TV which made it worse. You would think that I would have done some stitching but no that would have been productive. Instead I flipped some old magazines that I found in the closet from the 60's I wasn't even born in the 60's I'm not entirely sure where they came from. They were craft magazines with a lot of knitting patters which were extremely over my skill level, lots of crochet patterns (again over my skill level), rug hooking and some embroidery patterns.

I tried the new (well new for me) windows live writer when I tried an early post. I was sure I used the paragraph button but when I posted the entry it was one long post. It didn't show like that in the preview. I'll have to play with it some more.

Here are some pics I took yesterday of my son out shovel and my fur baby playing in the snow.

I tried to take a picture of the moon this evening as it was so bright in the sky however my picture taking skills are not the best and this was the best I could get.

I'll update my cross stitch Cute as a Button tomorrow. When I get more stitched.

Already broke one of my resolutions

One of my New Years resolutions was when I started a blog I was going to blog every day and do the Post a Photo every day challenge.  Well I took a few pictures yesterday of my son and dog out in the snow but when I tried to log onto the internet last night I was unable.

So although it wasn’t really my fault I still feel bad.  So today I’m posting two entries.  This short little rant and then another one later this evening.

I’m also trying out the window live writer which is suppose to post right to my blog without having to log into blogger.  So this is sort of a test post.

Finally some snow

Since it was a snowy/windy and cold day, I spent the day inside and re-potted some plants. I found this tip on the net and since I'm an avid tea drinker I had the tea bags and thought I would give it a try.

Prepare planter for potting
For healthier potted plants, place a few used tea bags on top of the drainage layer at the bottom of the planter before potting. The tea bags will retain water and leach nutrients to the soil.

I then spent the remainder of the day cleaning up the potting soil. Wow who knew that potting soil could get up and walk. I thought I had it contained to the kitchen but when I went down the hall I found traces of soil going from the kitchen to down the hallway, into the bedroom and into the bathroom. I'm blaming the dog...lol; as I didn't even go to those places while I was re-potting.

I didn't get any stitching done today but I have high hopes for this evening and tomorrow. I have plans to do nothing tomorrow. Lets see how that goes.

Took some pictures this morning of the snow that we received over night. It wasn't much but at least it some snow. We are suppose to get a few more centimeters this evening. I'm hoping!!!!

Another beautiful day

Weather wise it was a beautiful day! Sun was shinning and it was quite warm out. Since I was up early decide to take Ozzy for a walk up to the back field.

Here he is waiting for mom to make it up the hill

You would think looking at this next picture that field was huge and went right up to the trees in the background. However there is a 4 lane highway between the field and the line of trees in the background.

Here's the highway. It's never usually this quite. It's only because we were up and out early (well early for me) after morning traffic.

Picture of Pottle's Lake which is one of the major sources of drinking water for our town and surrounding communities. This is only one section of the lake. It's a pretty large lake.

Once we got home Ozzy needed a bath as he was covered in mud. He fell through an icy puddle and got his legs and stomach covered in water and muck.

I think I found my next cross stitch project. I wanted to do some kind of English cottage but I found this pattern instead and really liked them. Just hope I have to the skill level to do them justice.

Spring Day???

It was +5 today and the sun was shinning. It was just like a spring day. Ozzy and I did our normal walk around the block a couple of times. Kyle worked last night so he slept most of the day which means I had to be quiet so he could sleep. The harder I try to be quiet the more noise I seem to make.

I cleaned up my craft room a bit (needs alot more work) and while I don't have much stash in the line of thread I did find a number of cross stitch kits that I didn't know that I had; which was a lovely surprise. Not to mention the hundreds of knitting, plastic canvas and cross stitch magazines that I have. I love English cottages so I'm looking for a pattern for my next cross stitch project when I done the Cute as a Button.

Here are some of the kits I found today while cleaning.

Kyle's Birthday

So today was Kyle's birthday, my baby is legally now a man. At 6'4 he has been a "man" for a while now. Still it was a day to remember when; when he was born, when he did this or when he did that. I'm lucky my kid is a good kid and alot of the memories were good ones. I just hope when he reflects back on is early life he thinks fondly and lovingly as I do of him. A mom can dream. Today was also my grandfather's birthday. He thought Kyle/"the boy" being born on his birthday was the greatest gift ever. Like it was a planned event or something...lol. I miss you grandpa!!!

It was a very windy/rainy day here today but extremely mild. Once again no snow. According to the forecast on the radio we might get some snow on the weekend. I'm hoping!!! Didn't get any stitching done as I was doing housework and celebrating.

A picture taken from the window out on the street. I was trying to get the rain. It rained so hard at times it was like snow was falling. I didn't get the picture I wanted but here is a pic of the street.

A stitch update

Today was absolutely a beautiful day. Actually any day the sun is shinning is a good day. Took Ozzy for a walk since it was so nice. Picked up Kyle's birthday cake for tomorrow. Still find it hard to believe that Kyle is turn 19 tomorrow.

Mom is cooking a turkey tomorrow for dinner (Kyle's favorite) hopefully we won't lose our power in the storm. Rain and wind storm that is. When are we ever going to get some snow!!!

Did some stitching on my Cute as a Button today. Which I'll update. Wondering how I'm going to finish this ornament once it's done. After reading different blogs and looking at pictures and seeing how other people finish their projects I realized once again that I have no idea what I'm doing...lol.

Lazy Sunday

Part of my new years resolution was to try this blogger thing and try and post a picture and a post every day. Unfortunately day I felt like crap (my back was really bothering me today) and didn't really do anything. Sat in my favorite chair with the heating pad and read for awhile. Went through my two new cross stitching magazines cover to cover. Some really nice patterns I would like to try and then started reading Fatally Flaky by

Saturday night = British Comedies

It was cold today. For some reason I found it to be the coldest day so far and it was only -11 with the windchill but I found it to be bitter cold. Since it was cold out, I was able to get my house work done and then did some stitching on my Cute as a Button.

I love TV on Saturday night. PBS has 2 hrs of British comedies on. Which I find extremely funny. My new favorite is My Family. I watched it last week and I must have looked like a nutter. I had tears coming down my face, I couldn't catch my breath I was laughing that hard. Hopefully it will be as good this week.

It was a due nothing day or that's how it seemed.

Kyle wasn't working or sleeping today so we went shopping to get him something for his birthday. I can not believe my baby is turning 19 next week. By the time we got back from shopping my back decided it was done for the day and all the heating pads and the meds in the world are not helping right now.

It was a productive trip as I was able to pick up some things for Kyle and I was able to get my two favorite craft magazines -- Cross Stitcher and The World of Cross Stitching.

Watched the Canadian Hope for Haiti and now watching Hope for Haiti. The stories are so heart breaking and so many children are now orphans. I have been teary-eyed for at least 2 hrs now and there is another 1 1/2 left.

Pic of the day -- Ozzy. He was up to something when I caught him but I haven't figured out what.

Snow storm cancelled due to lack of interest

So according to the weather people yesterday we were suppose to wake up to 20+ cm of snow but again weather in Cape Breton is hard to predict and we ended up with just a light power. I was hoping for the 20+ but this was all the snow we got.

So I'm not a big TV fan but my all time favorite show is on this evening after a 6 week hiatus. I love the CW's Supernatural. I'm a sci-fi junkie and cannot wait for this evenings show.

Was able to get a little stitching done today. Here's my progress on Cute as a Button as of today.

New cross stitch project -- Cute as a Button

Started a new cross stitch yesterday it was a free kit from the Cross Stitcher magazine (I love that magazine). Here is a picture of my progress so far (not much).

My son worked days today so I was able to get some housework done that I was neglecting while he was sleeping because he usually works backshift. So I wasn't able to get much done on my Cute as a Button.

We are suppose to get a snow storm this evening. It just started snowing so I took a few pics. Hopefully there will be more of the white stuff tomorrow.

It was a soup kinda of day

Woke up this morning with a craving for chicken soup. So after a trip to the grocery store for a BBQ chicken and some vegetables and 4 hours of simmering I had home-made chicken soup. Good thing it was good because I made enough to last about 2 weeks. Note for next time -- make smaller batch.

So I just start cross stitching last year after having created many items using plastic canvas and I was hooked.

Here is a picture of my second attempt at cross stitching. My first was a small butterfly that my mom claimed.

Another closer pic.

Started a smaller project cross decoration today. Will post some pictures tomorrow.

Ozzy

Just a pic of my fur baby. His name is Ozzy, he's 1 1/2 years old and is a black lab/rotty mix. Here he is doing what he does best; begging for a cookie that I just baked.

If it doesn't come from a box I don't bake it

My son is always complaining that I never bake and when I do bake he says it is never has good as his grandmothers (my mom). So I found a box of Duncan Hines cookie mix. Just add 1 egg and 1 tbsp butter, stir and bake. Well I didn't get 16 cookies and they certainly don't look like the box.

Okay so mine definitely don't look like the box but they taste good.

Really wish I knew what exactly I was doing

So I thought that maybe I would take another step into the blogging world and actually try my hand at my own blog. I have been reading so many blogs everyday I thought maybe it was time to try. Hopefully it will be something that I can stick to.
